Show 90: The One With Brice and Equality Now

Hello, June; it really doesn’t seem like a year ago that we were last entering the CSTS season, but blow me …

Yes, the month of June can only mean two things for Browncoats – Joss Whedon’s birthday on 23 June and Can’t Stop The Serenity!

Hopefully you are all geared up for both, and as there are a number of CSTS events in the UK, decided against holding a Sending A Wave affiliate this year.

However, for our June show we speak with Brice Staeheli who is organising three days of CSTS in Minneapolis, mention that James Hance (the artist of last year’s wonderful “Firefrog” print) is once again fundraising for medical treatment for his daughter, Maddy, with an exclusive piece inspired by his “Wookiee The Chew” series (please find all details on his US website, jameshance.com and click on “Hugs for Maddy”).  Unfortunately, at present, this only appears to be available on his US/Canada site, not his UK site.  Lastly, the London office of Equality Now contacted us a few days ago to let us know that they have been able to obtain five of the Joss Whedon designed t-shirts for EN which he sported in the 2011 CSTS video and again at the SoCal Browncoat CSTS.  These shirts are currently on auction on eBay.co.uk and there is one shirt per size (ie one S, one M, one L, one XL and one XXL).  There is just over seven days left on the respective auctions, so lets start bidding!!!

As always, we hope you will enjoy the show and if you do, you can leave comments here or on our Facebook page or Twitter

You can find our podcast on itunes, here is a direct link to our page, and if you like us please make sure you leave us some feedback!

Show 81: The One That’s Pretty Short

Welcome to our September show!

The night’s are now drawing in, the leaves are falling from the trees, but we are trying to keep some notion of an indian summer by talking about the Beeston Browncoats wedding in August, the Browncoats of Gloucester’s trip to the London Equality Now offices, Odile’s forthcoming trip to the Browncoat Ball (not too late for tickets), but do jump to the end of the year when we mention the Whedon Winter Ball.

You can buy your ticket for the Whedon Winter Ball at www.bigdamnfanevents.co.uk.  If you want to listen to the music of John Mullaney’s band, “The Last Picture Show” ahead of the Ball, you can stream from www.myspace.com/lastpictureshowuk.

Lastly, did you attend B3 in December 2006?  Or help organise?  Would you be happy to speak with us about your experience for the forthcoming show?  I hope so, please contact us at sendingawave@gmail.com.

As always, enjoy and don’t forget you can leave comments here or on our Facebook page or Twitter

Browncoats of Gloucester & Equality Now in London

It was my great pleasure to join Simon and other members of the Browncoats of Gloucester this lunchtime (24 August) when they presented the London office of Equality Now with the amount raised at their CSTS event.

We also want to thank the wonderful ladies at EQ London for meeting with us.

Just Another Periodical Update …

Know what, I’m going to stop apologising – we’re all busy, right?  We all understand the score, right?

During the past couple of days, the US main TV networks have been announcing their renewals, pick ups and cancellations, so what does that mean for our BDH’s?

As followers of Nathan Fillion’s work and “Castle” fans (“Castillions”) are aware, ABC made the decision to renewal “Castle” for a fifth series in January.  Midweek, last week, Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly, tweeted that it looked like NBC had decided to renew “Chuck” and this was confirmed within forty-eight hours by the network.  They also announced that they were picking up “Playboy”, a drama set around the Chicago Playboy Club in the 60′s in which Sean Maher starred in the pilot and according to Nikki Finke’s “Deadline Hollywood” website, he signed for a recurring role.  Followers of Sean’s Twitter feed (@Sean_M_Maher) will have read that he shot his scenes in Chicago, but no word on whether the show will remain there or relocate back to Los Angeles as “Castle” did.  By Friday, ABC had announced that it was cancelling “V”.

From a Browncoat perspective, the big recent news has come from the California Browncoats regarding their CSTS 2011 screening on 25 June.  In case you have missed this (WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!), not only are Amanda Sullivan and Jessica Neuwirth flying in from Equality Now’s main New York office to thank Browncoats for all our efforts fundraising on their behalf, but Joss Whedon is taking a quick break from shooting “THE AVENGERS” to also make an appearance at the event.  Tickets are selling quickly, but if you can be there and move quickly enough, you can find all details on the California Browncoats website.

Lastly, UK Nathan Fillions fans?  Still not seen the funny (and-still-stands-up-better-than-”Friends”) show “Two Guys And A Girl” co-starring Ryan Reynolds?  Check for listings for the 5* channel, ‘cos they’re repeating it now.  Why this show is still not available on DVD is a complete mystery to me!

“We gotta go to the crappy town where I’m a hero”

crappytown_thumb5And how often have we recognized that sentiment …?

The good news is thanks to the wonderful peeps at Qmx teaming with the equally hospitable and all-round fantastic peeps who make up the Austin Browncoats, now is most definitely your chance.

Ben Mund – the creator of the awesome Serenity Valley map – is continuing on his personal epic of the ‘Verse with his forthcoming, “Atlas to the ‘Verse, Volume One: The Trader’s Guild Guide to the New Canaan Run” and to help him name towns, Browncoats are being given the opportunity to bid on eBay to name a town on your favourite planet in aid of Equality Now.  Fab or what?!

Of course, there are rules.  Firstly all names are subject to studio approval, no cursing please, nothing jokey or “pop-reference” (eg, Bobsville or Frakkintown) and finally, your town name should be 15 characters or less not including punctuation or spacing – sorry but looks like Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllanty-siliogogogoch is out of the running then …

There are planets for you to choose from and if you wish to join in the fun of having your favourite placename immortalized, then please go the to Austin Browncoats site for full details and good luck.
